Clyde Junior High Choir

Clyde Junior High has 3 different choirs for students to participate in.  The choirs are taught by Luke Burnam and Cindy Davenport, who also teach choir at the High School.  Mr. Burnam and Mrs. Davenport have a strong belief in teaching all students, regardless of background or history, the importance of good citizenship and character, and they use music as the vehicle to do so.  They strive to teach students how to be respectful, make smart choices, and how to have fun, through singing and hard work.

Each choir participates in 4 concerts throughout the year, as well as the Veteran's Day Program in November.  The choirs are occasionally invited to sing at Pep Rallies, sporting events, and other community and school activities.  Success in choir means attending all of the required performances and putting forth good effort in class every day.

6th Graders get to participate in the 6th Grade Mixed choir, learning the basics of singing 2-part music, sightreading, and music vocabulary.  Members of this choir may choose to participate in the 6th Grade All-Region Honor Choir.  With the help of their directors, participants learn 3 pieces of music, and audition for a panel of judges.  The top singers in each panel get to sing with the All-Region Choirs at a concert in November.

7th & 8th Graders get to participate in their respective choirs: Treble choir for ladies, Tenor-Bass choir for young men.  These choirs practice singing in a multi-voice ensemble, 2-part sightreading, and advanced musical vocabulary and techniques.  Members of these choirs may also choose to audition for the 7th-9th Grade All-Region Choirs.  They learn 4 pieces of music, audition for judges, and the top chairs get to sing with their respective choirs in November.  Members of these choirs may choose to participate in UIL Solo & Ensemble Competition.  At this competition, they learn a piece of music to sing by themselves with a piano, and audition for a judge, who gives them a rating on preparedness and presentation.  Every year, the majority of our students receive a "Superior" Rating from our Judges.  All eligible 7th & 8th graders also participate in the UIL Concert & Sight-reading competition.  As a choir, they prepare 3 pieces of music to sing for judges, as well as sightread a brand new piece of music from scratch.  Clyde Choirs consistently receive "Superior" and "Excellent" ratings at this competition every year.
